Completely Speechless

I’m at work right now. For those of you who don’t know where I work, I work at the athletics center on my university’s campus. I’m working front desk which means I monitor the turnstils and answer any questions or charge people for day passes if they want to go swimming and aren’t students etc. I just had an eldery lady and man, with very thick accents saying that they wanted to use the showers. I"m like what? She said that usually she pays four dollars for her and the man she was with. Usually to get into the buildings its four dollars each. I just let them both in for four dollars.
I’m completely speechless. What kind of sitution do they live in that requires them to come the gym and PAY to shower?
