I’m just so tired of being in this town. I’m tired of the people. Everyone’s simply a bunch of posers. I’m tired of my mom too. I wish it was September and I could move out and go to University already. I think I made a mistake staying another year.
I got back from March Break last Sunday night. I went to school on Monday for law then went home to sleep because I was tired. I started to get sick so I decided to sleep in again the next day and go in for lunch. Turns out I was too sick to do that either. I’ve been home all week sick since. My sore throat and cough got really bad so we went to the hospital on Sunday. They told me I have tonsillitus. Fun, eh? My mom’s signed me out of school for the rest of the week. Hopefully I’ll be able to go one day.
Sometimes I wonder if my town’s library is the smallest library in northern Ontario. There’s a town that is smaller then us about forty-five minutes away and the library there is bigger then ours. It’s really sad actually.
During the March Break my library usually runs some programs for kids. Since I’m a part of the TAG (Teen Advisory Group) at my library, we had to volunteer sometime this week. Since I’m gone most of the week, I chose to volunteer today for two reasons. 1) Might as well get it over and done-with early so I can pack on Tuesday and 2) I would rather read to kids to doing cross-stitching, whatever that is!
It was actually really fun today. I asked our library representative Mona if I could read to the kids and she agreed. I got to the library this morning and saw the book she wanted me to read. I asked her what the age group was supposed to be. She told me it was five to ten. I looked at the book again and then looked at her. I told her I was concerned that the book would be a bit to advance for the younger kids. She gave me the second book that I was supposed to read to them if we had time. She then told me I would take the five to seven year olds into the French section to read to them.
I really miss reading to kids. We use to have reading buddies when I was in grade seven and eight. While I was reading I would pause ever so often and stop to ask them questions like “What do you think is going to happen next?” “Why do you think it’s going to happen?” When we were done the book the other group with the older kids still wasn’t finished so I started to talk to them. There was a ladybug on the cover and one kid asked if there are male ladybugs. Without realizing what I was doing I started to talk about the ladybug in the movies “A Bugs Life” and how he was teased because he was a male and a ladybug. It got some of the kids to open up about how they were teased. I told them I was teased when I was their age too. I told them that no matter how hard it is, walk away from a bully. It makes you a bigger person. Bullies tease and hurt people so they can feel better about themselves. I think I really got through to the kids. Maybe because I’m younger and close to their age, to them I’m not an adult. I’m simply “older” but not adult old. I really hope I did.
After we read we did some crafts. I always hated doing crafts as a kid. I was never good at it. I got out of most of it by taking kids to the bathroom to wash their hands. They were in two groups. One made bird feeders with honey on a toilet roll and then rolled it in birdseeds and the other made stuff out of pipecleaners. All in all it was a fun morning!
